Deliver in Person — Australia's' Uber 'for UX-Reward Packages!
How to design a POC that will raise 3 million in the first round of funding? See our last mile delivery ecosystem project.
Deliver in Person is an Australian startup that offers same-day delivery. In 2021, he came to us with a product idea and a need to design an entire ecosystem, from an idea to a market-driven MVP. Currently, the company is successfully developing in the Australian market.
Thanks to the POC project, our client obtained financing that allowed the further development of the product.
The client introduced MVP to the Australian market. He is currently pivoting for Product-Market Fit.

UX
Context of the project
In the spring of 2020, our client wanted to enter the Australian logistics market with a new product — a parcel delivery system. Due to the pandemic, the delivery shopping market grew rapidly - it was the perfect moment for business development.
Design problem
In Australia, the delivery of a package usually takes about four days. This is definitely too long waiting period for customers.
Delivery time is also important for sellers. The sooner their customers receive an order, the more willing they will order something again.
We faced the following problem:How to order a large number of packages and at the same time guarantee their delivery on the day of the order?
Design challenge
How to design a service ecosystem that will support three different types of users in the parcel delivery process?
- How to support private drivers in the execution of orders so that they deliver packages quickly and without errors to the indicated address?
- How to organize the management of parcels in the company so that the process of sending them is easy, systematic, and orders reach the customer instantly? J
- How to allow private parties to quickly and efficiently send the parcel to the sender on the same day?
Design process
Exploration and Ideation
During a series of stakeholder workshops, we developed a solution concept.
We had to answer the following questions:
How is the whole package delivery process going — from sender to recipient?
What are the relationships between the different types of ecosystem users and how do their actions affect each other?
All workshops were attended by a business team and developers.
PoC Phase
In the early design phase, we wanted to quickly release the first version of the product, so we designed only the main screens of the mobile application for the courier.
We decided to create a simplified visual system that will allow us to prototype ideas quickly and accurately.
We worked closely with the development team and the business team, constantly colliding our ideas with technical constraints and business needs.
As part of our research, we explored the world of a potential user — we analyzed posts on facebook groups and forums for gig-workers (mainly drivers).
Design in beta
Usability tests with drivers
When the beta version of the ecosystem was ready, we decided it was a good time to conduct tests with users.
Worth highlighting
- In the scenario, we focused on several paths critical to the success of the product.
- During the test, we used the beta version of the application and the prototypes of the packages (boxes, labels), thanks to which the participants could feel more about the role.
We conducted six usability tests with gig-workers, drivers and couriers.
The tests were field based — we delivered packages to recipients in Warsaw.
Each meeting lasted an hour — during which time we picked up and delivered packages.
Building an MVP
Based on feedback from users, we redesigned the courier application, eliminating errors.
- We have simplified some user paths, focusing on the simplest and most effective solutions.
- We built a complete Design System, thanks to which the ecosystem of the three applications remained visually consistent.
- We have created a list of ideas for further development and expansion of the system in the next phases.
Application for couriers
View of the current order with all its details
The courier sees in the map view the current order with all its details. He can easily contact a customer if he wants to ask him something.
Grouping orders, with the same address
The application automatically groups orders that have the same address. Such resolutely facilitates the work of the courier.
Application for business users
Convenient package management
The web application allows you to conveniently define the packages that are to be delivered to the recipient.
After sending parcels, you can track their status.
Application for the individual user
Convenient dispatch of parcels
In the mobile application, you can conveniently order a courier and send a parcel.
Parcel status preview
After sending the package, you can track how the whole process of its delivery is going.
What we do
$3 million in funding raised
The PoC project allowed our client to raise $3,000,000 in funding to build an MVP and further develop.
MVP has been launched in the Australian market
Thanks to the funding, an MVP was built, which was launched in the Australian market and is currently pivoting for a Product-Market Fit.
Award at the EXAW Experience Awards
Our project was awarded in the first UXoM competition in Poland — EXAW Experience Awards, winning the second prize.
Further work on the product
After the creation of MVP, the startup began operations in the Australian market, acquiring and serving its first customers.
Our design team is part of the Deliver in Person product team and continues to work on the development of the solution.
